Individual Details
Thomas BLALOCK II
(1628 - 1677)
At the age of 18, Thomas Blacklock was sent back to the homeland of his father, Cumberland, England to receive an education and to find a wife. For the first couple of years he was probably in the care of his uncle Edward Blacklock, along with his brothers and sister. He remained in England for approximately nine years. During that time he was educated and met and married his first wife, Sarah Black (bn ?-1665). Before they left England their first child, a son, Thomas Blacklock, III was born.
Early in 1656, Thomas #2 along with his wife Sarah and son Thomas #3, boarded the ship the GUIDING STAR, and headed for a reunion with their father and grandfather Thomas Blacklocke, Sr. His children, Thomas #3, 1653-?, ancestor of Richard Tyrus, daughter Elizabeth (ca 1657-) married Thomas Foster, and Francis (ca 1659) no other info. were proven in the records of Accomack County, A87, John Rew Part"1672.....1672 patented to John Arue for his half. In 1674 John and Dorothy Arue sold to Thomas Blacklock, and three years later he and his wife Christian (Blacklock) left to his son Thomas (this tract of land) and his will also mentioned daughters Elizabeth and Frances. Nothing more was found recorded about young Thomas or his sister Frances. In 1683 Thomas and Elizabeth Blacklock Foster sold the 150 acres to Thomas Blake, about whom nothing more was found. In a genealogy booklet entitled EARLY VIRGINIA IMMIGRANTS, A Thomas Blacklock along with his wife and child is listed"....by Southy Littleberry, Northampton Co. Va in 1655" This is the son of the original THOMAS BLACKLOCKE. Again, in the book, CAVALIERS AND PIONEERS, patent book #4, Thomas Blacklock and his wife and child are listed as receiving a grant of land in Southey Littleton, Northampton Co. at Nondris (Nondui) creek, March 25, 1656, p 19, After arriving from England, the grand was shown as renewed November 1661. This grant was probably the "other property " in his will. These properties may have been the "other properties" bequeathed to his minor children of his second wife, Anne Christian Scott, when he died in 1677. Children 4, 5, and 6 are indicated in the will of Thomas #2, and in the book, records and research of Edwin Blalock, who traces his ancestry and the ancestry of the BLALOCKS back to John William Blacklock (child #5) ON THE EASTERN SHORE" by Calvin Blacklock, 1995.
