Will
Appraisal reflects a prosperous home of above average life style. Four feather beds and furniture indicate a 4-bedroom home. China and pewter & silver, drinking glasses, table cloths & rugs add attraction t o the picture & indicate an abundant life. Twelve slaves are listed, and these reflect quite a large operation of this plantation. In addition to this appraisal are the lands devised to his sons in his will. He was affluent enough t o lend money to those who were in need of it, and businesslike enough to collect interest on it. The books listed testify of some learning & he was able to sign his name when man y of those around him must sign with a witnessed mark. The spectacles & razor indicate his personal habitsEndnotes
