David Jacob Crotts

(19 Oct 1829 - 12 Sep 1907)

Buried at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ cemetery on Holly Grove Road
In the present time Sr. and Jr. usually denotes father and son, however
this has not always been the custom. In the past it was common for Sr.
and Jr. to denote uncle-nephew or grandfather-grandson especially since
the German custom ofnaming children was to name them for uncles or
grandparents. David Jacob's son Andrew named a son David Jacob after his
father. After the birth of Andrew's son David added Sr. to his name as he
considered Andrew's son to be David Jacob Crotts Jr. after the German
custom.
