James Dorwin Spencer

Page 604 of "The Fighting Men of Texas" (published in 1948 by the Historical Publishing Company of Dallas, Texas) gives the following brief account of Spencer's World War II experiences below a photograph of him in his Army Air Force uniform:
"Sgt. James D. Spencer, husband of Bonnie Briles Spencer, 3435 E. Rosedale, Fort Worth, Texas, was born November 17, 1920. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Spencer of Redwater, Texas. [Note that this birth date disagrees with the birth date of November 11, 1920, provided by his son Rodney. The date provided by Rodney is used in these files.] He attended the public schools of Redwater and Texas A&M College. Entered service May 30, 1944, at Camp Wolters, and was assigned to the Army Air Force, training at Stinson Field, San Antonio. Served overseas from December 20, 1944, to May 7, 1946, with the Air Service Command in the China-Burma-India Theater and with the 13th Air Force in the Philippines. Sgt. Spencer was honorably discharged May 14, 1946."
The same page of "The Fighting Men of Texas" that contained Spencer's photo and brief account of his war experiences also contained the photos and war experiences of his brothers-in-law, W. Elwood Briles, Van G. Briles, and Connally O. Briles.
In an email dated 8/12/2004, Spencer's ex-sister-in-law Jeanie Briles Cookston said that she thought that Spencer's birthday was November 17th rather than November 11th as reported by his son.
