— John “Boyd” Pierce Jr., 67, of Trinity died Saturday, May 23, 2015, at his residence from a heart attack following a long, courageous battle with leukemia.
Born Aug. 17, 1947, in Randolph County, Boyd was the son of John Boyd and Norma Canoy Pierce. He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting and was a self-employed truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his father.
On Dec. 2, 1978, he married the former Nancy Byrd, who survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Linda McGhee and husband Trenton of Mooresville; his mother, Norma Canoy Pierce of Trinity; two sisters, Danese Pierce of Sophia and Beverly Pierce of Trinity; one brother, Dale Pierce of Sophia; and two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Wayne Byrd and wife Yvonne and Charles Byrd and wife Pat, all of Asheboro.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at Poplar Ridge Friends Meeting, officiated by the Rev. David Mercadante, the Rev. Dr. Brian Donley and the Rev. Wayne Byrd. Interment will follow in the meeting house cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, from 6-8 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.
