Death
Charles "Wayne" Summey, 73, of Lexington passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday January 5, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Wayne was born June 18, 1945 to the late Lee Summey and Lois Gordon Summey in Randolph County. Wayne was a member of Denton Wesleyan Church. Wayne was an avid hunter and outdoorsman; he found great joy in raising and training dogs. He was a big sports fan, and always was rooting for the Duke Blue Devils. The thing that brought Wayne his greatest joy in life was being a devoted “Papaw”, he was very faithful to every athletic practice and game that his precious grandchildren took part in. He was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother and friend; he will be greatly missed. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Summey. Surviving is his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Floyd Summey of the home; one daughter, Angela Summey Owens and husband Neil of Lexington; two grandchildren, Preston Owens and Aneil Owens; one brother, Kenneth Lee Summey and wife Patsy of Thomasville; one sister, Kathy Summey Ernest and husband Jim of Myrtle Beach, SC.; he also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Davidson County, for the wonderful care they have provided to Wayne through his sickness. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Denton Wesleyan Church with Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
