Death
Susan B. Smits of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 22 days.Mrs. Smits was born on January 29, 1935 at Noblesville, Indiana to Nineveh and Eula Briles. Her parents were missionaries so she made her home in many parts of the country and world. At the age of 12 she moved to Bolivia and it was here that she spent her teen years. Mrs. Smits returned to the United States in 1950 where she pursued a career in bookkeeping and then real estate. In 1952, she was married to Samuel E. Smits and to this marriage two daughters were born. Susan was known as a person that was well liked and who enjoyed her work. She was an avid reader and her family and friends were very dear to her. Susan was also devoted to her dogs, Dutch and Dani. She was employed at Coldwell-Banker Realty in Sullivan as an agent and later was Administrative Assistant at the firm.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Hristov of Washington, Missouri and Patti-Jo Wolff of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Jesse Briles of the state of Virginia, David Briles of the state of Michigan; one sister, Juana Mase of the state of Arizona; three granddaughters, Sarah M. Smith, Mary Wolff and Samantha Wolff; former husband, Samuel Smits and special friend Pat; other relatives and friends. The family also extends their heart-felt thanks for the care and love extended by BJC Hospice.
Along with her parents, Mrs. Smits was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, David Smith and John Wolff; and by two brothers, Phillip and Peter Briles.
Visitation for Mrs. Smits was held from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Southside Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, 301 Sappington Bridge Road, Sullivan, Missouri. Funeral service were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday at the Southside Chapel in Sullivan with cremation following the services.
