Dr. John Wesley Varner

John Varner was the son of the Reverend J. Milton Varner and Mary Eldora Plummer Varner. He lived a rich life in medicine and psychiatry, as well as having a keen interest in service to others and in genealogy. He was married to Willie Lee Jordan of Aiken, S.C. He met "Billie", a nurse, while working at a hospital in Columbia, S.C. They had three children: Roy Van (deceased), John Wesley Jr., and Virginia.
John Varner worked at John Umstead Hospital in Butner for a number of years. He became the director of the Davidson County Mental Health Center and a building was named in his honor. He served in the North Carolina State Legislature for eight years. Despite his busy life, he always had time for his family and friends. He is very much missed.
