See "Genealogy of the Hibbard Family Who are Descendants of Robert Hibbard of Salem, MA" by Augustine George Hibbard dated 1901 found at Heritage Quest Online shows on page 11 and quoting Savage Genealogy, Vol. II, page 408 that he was born 24 Jan 1643 and baptized in Salem, MA. On pages 12 and 16 shows birth was 24 Nov 1642. It appears he misquoted Savage.See "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, showing Three Generations of Those Who Came Before May, 1692, on the Basis of Farmer's Register" by James Savage Vol II dated 1860 page 408 on CD by Archive CD Books. Shows he was baptized on 24 Jan. 1643.
Essex was not created until 10 May 1643.
