See page X of Appendix of "Titus Family in America" by Dorothy M. Titus dated July 1943: "The name of Titus may have been of Roman origin. The name itself indicates that, and it is stated that Silius Titus, who was born in 1570 and died November 24, 1637, claimed to be of the same family as the Emperor Titus who commanded the Roman forces at the siege of Jerusalem A.D. 70."
See "A Genealogical Guide to the Titus Family in North America" by William R. Arthurs received by e-mail which states that Silas Titus was a soap maker. That document shows that his son, Silas from his second marriage, was appointed to a Council for Foreign Plantations at 500 pounds per year by King Charles II by Royal Commission on 30 July 1670 with a reference source to New York Colonial manuscripts. His other son Robert from his first marriage, was already in the New World as of 1635.
