Isaac Buswell

Isaac Buswell, Sr. was the son of Roger and Elisabeth Boswell. He was baptized in 1592 in Husband's Bosworth Parish, Leicester Co., England. There isn't a lot of information about Isaac [1] before his arrival in New England. He married Elizabeth in England and they had four children. There is no surname or ancestry for Elizabeth. She last appears in records for her burial on April 20, 1631. She probably died from complications from childbirth since her infant child died soon afterwards. Their children were: Phebe, William, Samuel and Gabriel (died as an infant in 1631).
Isaac [1] appears on a list of passengers on the ship "Confidence". It sailed from Southampton, England on 24 April 1638. Landed Salem, MA. Although the names of his second wife, Margaret, and children aren't on the list it is assumed they were on the trip with him. Early American authors assumed Isaac's first wife was Margaret and the mother of Phebe, William and Samuel. They were unaware of Elizabeth and her death in England since Margaret was the only wife they knew. Margaret died in Salisbury, MA, on 29 July 1641.
From "The ancestry of Daniel Bushnell" by J. Gardner Barlett dated 1918, page 15 found at Heritage Quest Online: Isaac Buswell (or Buzzell), born in England about 1592, emigrated to New England about 1638, and the next year was one of the founders of Salisbury, MA. He was a weaver by occupation, on 9 Oct. 1640 was admitted a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and resided in Salisbury until his death, 8 July 1683.
