In the book "Phineas F. Bresee, a Prince in Israel" by Rev. E. A. Girvin, he spells the last name Crowley.
1870 census for E. Des Moines, Polk Co., Iowa, shows a PP Bresee age 56 (born 1813) a farmer living with his wife, Susan age 56, son-in-law G.H. Cowley age 40, his wife Diantha Bresee age 33 and their son Fred Cowley age 10.
