Eveline was born in 1840 before Griffith J. Rowland and Margaret Jordan were married. If she was a daughter of Griffith J. Rowland, her mother would have been Mary Mikesell, Griffith J. Rowland's first wife who died in 1845. Margaret Rowland, Griffith J. Rowland's second wife, names Eveline Marshall as a daughter in her will. Margaret Rowland was married to a Redden prior to her marriage to Griffith J. Rowland in 1845 since she names her son, John Redden, in her will. Eveline was probably a daughter of Margaret and her first husband by the name of Redden. Eveline would have been five years old when her mother married Griffith J. Rowland and may have adopted his surname.

Griffith J. Rowland leaves $500 to Mrs. Evaline Marshall in his will but does not refer to her as his daughter. He refers to his other children he names in his will as his children. He refers to Mrs. Evaline Marshall as his wife's daughter at one place in the will.
