Individual Details

Michael HELMAN

(Abt 1791 - )

Michael had purchased the shares of his brother Jacob and his niece and her husband, Betsy and Samuel Hoover, prior to his brother Daniel petitioning the Court in 1833 for a valuation of his father George Helman's property of 109 acres. The land was worth $28.80 per acre or $3,162.78 total. Michael purchased his brothers' and sisters' shares of the property. A guardian was appointed for his brother George Helman's children in 1833 since he was thought to be dead. George Helman had deserted his wife Catherine and her children prior to 1823 when his father-in-law, John Heffner, wrote his will. Catherine's brother, John Heffner, was appointed guardian for the children in 1833 but this order was later vacated in 1835 when it was realized George Helman was not deceased. He must have come forward to collect owed to him from his father's estate.
