Notes
Birth
There is a transcription of an obituary from the Preston County Journal 7 September 1872 online at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com. It is rather extensive and flowery. It gives her birthdate, the date of her marriage, and the date of her death. Her husband John McWilliams was the editor of a newspaper in Clarksburg at the time of their marriage and a few months later became the editor of the Preston County Journal according to the article. She attended the Female Seminary in Indiana, Pennsylvania and was able to play several instruments. She also enjoyed sketching and writing poetry. She may have been pregnant at the time of her death since the article states she told a friend "I shall not survive the period of my confinement."Death
Her date of death is given as 28 August 1872 in the Preston County Journal and as 29 August 1872 in The Indiana Democrat. Her husband John McWilliams was the editor of the Preston County Journal so this date is being used for her date of death.Endnotes
