Notes
Marriage
Letter from Martha H. Jones to Nancy Levitz postmarked 16 October 1985 states his wife was Jane Reese. This is incorrect since William Jones names his daughter Jane Jones, wife of Griffith Rowland, in his will.Property
Cambria County sold the warrant for the unseated land in the name of Henry Horn for unpaid taxes of $7.50 to John McCahan of Huntington County on 3 June 1811 for $10, $7.50 in unpaid taxes, and $1.75 bond. John McCahan then sold his "right title and interest of in and to the within deed poll" to Hugh Mullen on 3 September 1811 for $25. Hugh Mullen and Mary his wife then sold "the within deed poll and all my right and title to the tract of land" to Griffith Roland on 1 February 1814 for $50.Property
Griffith Rowland had previously purchased a tract of 316 acres that had been patented to Matthew Pryor. He sold his interest in this tract minus 105 acres and the improvements he had made to Matthew Pryor for $1. Matthew Pryor sold his interest in this 105 acres to Griffith Rowland for $5.Property
The agreement between Griffith Rowland and John B. Crum, his son-in-law,said that John B. Crum was to have use of their farm for supporting Griffith and Jane his wife during their natural lives and was to receive 50 acres from the farm after their deaths. Also, he was to pay William Rowland (son of Griffith and Jane Rowland) $100 within four years after the death of the of Griffith Rowland and Jane, his wife. If John B. Crum or his wife, Maria (Griifith's daughter), died during the lifetime of Griffith and Jane Rowland, then the survivor of them (John B. or Maria Crum) was to give up possession of the farm (50 acres).
Probate
His will names his wife Jane and his sons Isaac, William, Griffith, and John, as well as his daughters Eliza, the wife of Enoch Rees Jr., and Maria Crum, the wife of John B. Crum. It also mentions his granddaughter Maria Jane Crum. He leaves his real estate to his wife during her natural lifetime subject to the agreement with John B. Crum. He leaves 55 acres of land not included in the agreement with John B. Crum to his son, Isaac Rowland. His son William is to receive $50 in addition to the $100 mentioned in the agreement with John B. Crum. His sons, Griffith and John, are to receive $5 each. His daughter Eliza, the wife of Enoch Reese, Jr., is to receive $60. In the agreement with John B. Crum, if John B. Crum or his wife died before Griffith Rowland or his wife, the premises where John B. Crum resided was to be returned to Griffith Rowland. According to Griffith's will, if the land is returned to Griffith Rowland, then his daughter, Maria Crum, or her daughter, Maria Jane Crum, or the survivor of them and their heirs were to receive the land (50 acres). His will was written the 11 April 1846 and probated 11 June 1847. The witnesses were D. W. Williams, Ellis Rowland, and John Gillin, Jr. The executors were David Davis (drover) and and Edmund J. Waters. Two of the witnesses were related to him. D. W. Williams was his nephew and Ellis Rowland was his brother.
