Individual Details
Martha LAYTON
(Apr 1812 - 16 Apr 1904)
Martha received a pension 13 January 1870 retroactive to 4 October 1869 based on her son Daniel's Civil War service since he died from a gunshot wound on 28 November 1863. Although she was married when she applied for the pension on 4 October 1869, her son Daniel was her sole support since her husband John had suffered some sort of brain disease and was unable to work for the previous 15 to 18 years.
Martha was enumerated twice in the 1900 census, with her son Samuel J. Helman and her son David D. Stull.
