Individual Details

Mary HELMAN

(Mar 1835 - 5 Sep 1905)

Mary received a widow's pension since her first husband, Daniel Repplogel, died in 1864 during the Civil War. She married Irwin Cooper Brady on 4 July 1879. She claimed that she never received any pension vouchers after her marriage to Brady. She said that Robert C. Donehay, her son-in-law, intercepted the pension vouchers and forged her signature on them. She was initially arrested in November, 1881 and was transported to Pittsburgh to answer the charge but was not found guilty. Robert C. Donehay, her son-in-law, was convicted in the U.S. Court of forging pension papers. He was sentenced to two years in the State Penitentiary on 12 November, 1881.
