Notes
Birth
Catharine's father George Helman had one female under 10 in the 1820 census and one female 5 thru 9 and one female 10 thru 14 in the 1830 census. His daughter Elizabeth was married to George Shaffer and his daughter Catharine was married to Beatty McMillen. George Sheaffer and Beaty McMillen were living next to each other in Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania in the 1840 census. George's wife Elizabeth was 20 to 29 in the 1840 census. Beatty's wife Catharine was 15 to 19 in the 1840 census. Therefore, Elizabeth was the oldest daughter and Catharine was the youngest.Death
George W. Shaffer married Magdalena Shook after his first wife Elizabeth Helman died. George and Magdalena's oldest daughter Charlotte was born 25 October 1851. She would have been conceived about January 1851. Since George's wife Elizabeth was living on 2 August 1850 when the census was taken, she died sometime between 3 August 1850 and January 1851.Endnotes
