Notes
Probate
Barbara Wolfgong petitioned the Court as his widow in February 1884 to make a partition of the real estate that Michael Wolfgong owned in Oliver Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania when he died intestate on 8 June 1871. She was entitled to one third as his widow and his seven children to the other two thirds. The Court said the real estate could not be divided "without prejudice to or spoiling the whole." The 124 acres were valued at $22.50 per acre or $2790. The land was sold at a public sale to Michael and Barbara Wolfgong's son Simon J. Wolfgong for $2250. Barbara received the interest on her one third share during her lifetime.John Shaffer is also mentioned in the petition as one of the persons the sheriff served notice regarding the hearing to order sale of the property rather than divide it. He was the father of Frank Shaffer married to Barbara Wolfgong's daughter Caroline.
