LIFE
A. Conflict: Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 394 and Fornander, Chronological Table of Events in Hawaiian History states his birth year as 1834.
Conflict: McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 1 p 18; Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 327; and Peabody-Henriques Genealogy, Hms G17, p 284 list birthdate as January 31, 1832.
B. He was reared by his mother's cousin Peleuli (Record of foster parents of the Kamehamehas and other chiefs, HEN v1 p 763-765).
C. He was elected king in January 1873; the first to be elected by the constitution because Kamehameha V did not name a successor. (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 299). He reigned from June 8, 1873 to Feb 3, 1874 (Cartwright, The Genealogy of the Kamehameha Dynasty, p 21). "The King's health never was good" (Rubincam, America's Only Royal Family, p 86).
D. He took on the title of Lunalilo when he became king (Liliuokalani, Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen, p 14).
E. He was never married (Liliuokalani, Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen, p 15).
Conflict: Ahlo et al, Kamehameha's Children Today, p 179, indicates a mate named Hakaleleponi Kapakuhaili.
F. He "left the bulk of his real estate to found a home for aged and poor Hawaiians" (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 300).
G. He died of pulmonary consumption (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 300).
