LIFE
A. Conflict resolved: "Some people would argue ... Kakaalaneo is the same as Kakae. In the thoughts of other people, Kakaalaneo is different and Kakae is his younger brother" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 11). However, Fornander, Kamakau and Kalakaua treat them as separate (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 82; Kamakau, Tales and Traditions of the People of Old, p 72; Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 229).
B. Chief of Maui and Lanai, who ruled jointly with his brother Kakaalaneo (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 82). Jointly ruled from about 1380-1415 (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 229).
C. Kept his court at Lele, the ancient name of Lahaina (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 82).
D. Died at Olowalu, Maui (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 11). "It is said that Kaka'e lived mauka of 'Iao until he was old and wrinkled; he died in the upland of Olowalu" (Kamakau, Tales and Traditions of the People of Old, p 73).
