Nuuanupaahu
( - Abt 1779)
If this is Nuuanupaahu, "a chief of Naalehu in the Kau district," he joined Imakakaloa, chief in the Puna district, in resisting the extravagent demands of Kalaniopuu. This Nuuanupaahu had a hand bit off by a shark, and he subsequently died a few days later (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 200-201). His death is estimated to be about 1779 (Stokes, New Bases for Hawaiian Chronology, p 27). Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, 1865 July 29, p 4, Ka Papa Kuhikuhi Makahiki o na mea Kaulana o Hawaii Nei! indicates the year to be 1781.
