"Mookini was a high priest in ancient times" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 89). Kalakaua wrote of a high priest Mookini, who traveled with Moikeha from Raiatea back to Hawaii. His name "by singular coincidence, was identical with that of the temple, erected by the high-priest Paao more than two generations before" (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 121-124).
