LIFE
A. "He was sent to Italy by King Kalakaua to be educated." He married Gina Sobrero there (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 33a). The first marriage was annulled. He then married Theresa Owana in 1892 (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 34).
B. While married to Theresa, "they operated and managed two Hawaiian newspapers called the Liberal and the Home Rule Republic which was written in Hawaiian and English" (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 24).
C. "He became a teacher at Ulupalakua and was elected to the Legislature from the district of Wailuku" (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 32). He also led 2 unsuccessful military campaigns against the colonizers. His slogan was "Hawaii for the Hawaiians" (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 34).
D. "He died Oct 23, in 1903, after attending a banquet, at which time it is believed that be, and several companions, were poisoned" (Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 299).
