LIFE
A. Namakeha was a high chief of Hawaii (Bingham, A Residence of Twenty-one Years in the Sandwich Islands, p xvi).
B. He was a tabu chief of Maui. He caused a rebellion in Hawaii while Kamehameha was seeking to conquer Kauai. Kamehameha returned to crush the rebellion in September, 1796. Namakeha was sacrificed in January, 1797 (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 173-174). The year of battle 1796 was confirmed by Dibble, History of the Sandwich Islands, p 71.
Conflict: He was slain in battle against Kamehameha in 1796 (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 222). Fornander, Chronological Table of Events in Hawaiian History lists his death 1796.
