There was relative peace in the previous generations of Hilo, but great battles began with Kuaana's reign. The following centuries of war between Hilo and Kona chiefs began with cruel treatment of Kuaana by the Kona chiefs (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 45,62).
