LIFE
A. He was born in Olowalu, Maui in 1818 or 1819. "He enrolled in Lahainaluna at age thirteen, one of forty-three students in the school's first grade of its inaugural year (1831). David Malo was in the same class" (Kenney, Mormons and the Smallpox Epidemic of 1853, p 18).
B. He was the first Hawaiian convert to Mormonism and was baptized by George Q. Cannon (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 8).
C. He went to Kalaupapa, Molokai to care for his mother who was stricken with leprosy (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 8).
