Charles Reed Bishop

LIFE
A. Financier and philanthropist. Born 25 Jan 1822 in Glenn Falls, N.Y. and died 7 June 1915 in Berkeley, C.A (Hawaii Chiefs Biographical Abstract, 1998).
B. He "started the banking business in San Francisco" and then "went to Hawaii to continue the banking business and met the Princess to the throne and married her" (Wood, Lucretia Reed, 1812-1908, family genealogical notes, including relationship to C. R. Bishop, Ms. Case 2 G74, Bishop Museum Archives).
He "arrived at Honolulu on October 12, 1846. He married Princess Bernice Pauahi on June 4, 1850. He held many positions of government, started a bank, and founded the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum after the death of his wife" (Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 14)
