A. "a Frenchman from Bordeaux, France" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 1 p 37).
B. "called Old Woman (Luahine) by the natives" (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 246).
C. Frenchman who introduced Christianity to Kaahumanu. She arranged for him to marry her niece Holau (Castro, High Chief Kalokuokamaile, p 15).
D. As his intimate friend, John Rives traveled with Liholiho to England. After Liholiho's death, he returned to France (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 256-257).
