Individual Details
Kauholanuimahu
(Abt 1434 - )
LIFE
A. Birth year 1434 estimated with Stokes' standard 20 years prior to son Kiha, plus 2 years because Kiha was his second child by the same mother.
Conflict: Reign of island of Hawaii estimated to be 1380-1415 A.D. (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 31).
B. Sovereign of Hawaii (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 70; Keahikuniaalapalapa, Royal Genealogy of H.R.H.P. Kaikilani IV and her Family. G-53, p 6) after his father passed away (Malo, Hawaiian Antiquities, p 255).
C. Resided on Maui at Honua-ula (Malo p 256), possibly because Neola is said to have been a Maui chiefess. "Kauholanui-mahi was contemporary with the Kakaalaneo family on Maui, with the Kalonas on Oahu, and with Kahakuokane, the grandson of Manokalanipoo of Kauai" (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 71).
D. Fragment: He took on another mate after Neula incited a rebellion against him over rumors he had taken another mate in Maui (Kalakaua, The Legends and Myths of Hawaii, p 215). His mate took on another (Malo, Hawaiian Antiquities, p 256).
