LIFE
A. Conflict: Helekunihi Genealogy, Hms G54, p 40 identifies as female.
B. Ruler of Maui, successor to Kahekili (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 2 p 223). Chosen by Kahekili as ruling chief of Maui, which Kahekili remained on Oahu following his conquest (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 132). "the last independent king of Maui, conquered by Kamehameha I" (Fornander, An Account of the Polynesian Race, vol 1 p 194).
C. When his father Kahekili went to Hawaii to attack Kamehameha, he was ruling chief of Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, and Maui. He left his son Kalanikupule on Oahu to rule in his absence (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 159).
"Last king of Oahu" (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 318). He "was the chief of Oahu at the battle of Nuuanu when Kamehameha and his warriors invaded Oahu" (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 73).
D. Conflict: Dibble, History of the Sandwich Islands, p 71 dates the battle at Nuuanu in 1794, although he does say that Kalanikupule was in hiding in the mountains for some time.
E. Conflict: Forbes, A Chronological Table of Remarkable Events lists death year as 1791.
