Valedictorian of the 1st graduating class of Brooking High School in 1890, later gradated from Agricultural College (now SDSU), 1st Lieutenant Adjutant in Company I, 1st Regiment South Dakota Volunteers in the Spanish American War. Promoted posthumously to Captain. First South Dakotan to be killed in foreign war in Philippines in 1899. US Army Reserve Center in Sioux Falls, SD is memorialized to him. He had a Law Degree from Univ. of Nebraska and was a Sioux Falls, SD newspaperman.
