Irma I. Lokken, age 97, of Brookings, died Sunday, August 26, 2001, at the Hendricks Community Hospital in Hendricks, MN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2001, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hendricks, with interment in the Hendricks Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White. Memorials may be directed to the Great Plains Lutheran High School in Watertown, SD, and The Lord's Day radio broadcast in care of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, SD.
Irma Irene (Schwanz) Lokken was born September 9, 1903, in Drammen Township near Hendricks, MN, to Paul A. and Elizabeth (Dorn) Schwanz. On January 28, 1924, she married Ingvald G. Lokken at Canby, Minnesota. Following their marriage, the Lokkens lived in Madison, Minnesota, and in 1932, they moved to a farm west of Hendricks in Brookings County, South Dakota, where they farmed for 30 years. In 1962 they moved to Las Vegas, NV and managed a flower ship and wedding chapel. Several years later, they moved to Colorado where they managed a motel. They worked in motel management in Fountain, CO, then Denver before returning to Fountain. In 1972, they returned to White, South Dakota. Ingvald died June 16, 1987.
Irma was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hendricks and the Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School for many years.
Survivors include three sons: Russell E.(Carol) Lokken of Las Vegas, NV. Herbcrt P. (Wanda) Lokken of White, SD, and Ronald O. (Beverly) Lokken of Brandon, SD; two daughters. Elaine D. Wiese and Carole M. Zeitlow, both of Brookings. SD; 22 grandchildren. 55 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and three brothers: Ralph (Georgianna) Schwanz of Brainerd, MN. Howard (Alice) Schwanz of Paradise. CA, and Melvin (Irma) Swanz of Simi Valley, CA.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, three sisters, Anita, Ora, and Lyda, two brothers, Orville and Lloyd, three grandchildren, and two greatgrandchildren.
