Harrriet Bjugstad

The memorial service for Harriet Lawson, 93, of Stewartville, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at United Methodist Church in Racine, with the Rev. Glenn Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in rural Racine.
Mrs. Lawson died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, of natural causes at the Adams Health Care Center in Adams, where she had been a resident since September 2012.
Harriet Lawson was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Burnstad, N.D., to Martin and Elmira (Hardy) Bjugstad. She grew up and attended school in Burnstad. She moved with her family as a teen to Stewartville, where she graduated from Stewartville High School in 1938. Harriet was employed as housekeeper in Rochester for a few years prior to her marriage to Clarence Thompson. They lived in Racine where Clarence operated a service station. Mr. Thompson died in 1956. Harriet was employed at the U.S. Post Offices in Racine and Rochester for a few years. She was married on Jan. 19, 1964, at the Methodist Church in Winnebago, to Harry C. Lawson. The couple resided in rural Racine and Mr. Lawson owned and operated Racine Sand and Gravel. The Lawsons sold their farm and retired, then moved into Racine in 1992. Mr. Lawson died on Dec. 5, 1999. Harriet moved to Stewartville where she lived for a number of years.
She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Racine. She enjoyed reading, her daily devotions, embroidery, visiting with friends and always enjoyed cooking and entertaining for and time spent with family.
Harriet is survived by many nieces and nephews; and two sister-in-laws, Myrtle Tebay of Stewartville and Ruth Goede of Plainview.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry and Clarence, her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church in Racine on Thursday morning.
