Gladys Rosina Capp was born May 9, 1910 to parents Ole and Carrie (Hermo) Grindeland in Deuel County, near Brandt, South Dakota. She was baptized on July 3, 1910 in the East Highland Church and was confirmed in the Highland Church in Brandt. She attended country school at District 4. Gladys was one of fifteen brothers and sisters. She was a middle child and she helped care for her younger siblings, milked cows and helped her mother with household chores.
Gladys was united in marriage to James Capp on July 3, 1929 in Clear Lake, SD. They farmed in South Dakota and later farmed near Porter, MN. In 1947 they moved into Porter where she was a homemaker, babysitter and a terrific gardener. Gladys always had a huge garden and she canned everything she could. She also loved to bring mail to her older friends. Gladys worked at the Swift plant in Marshall and at Porter Produce. James had a small trucking company. James passed away in 1975.
Although Gladys and James never had any children of their own, when her eleven year old nieces lost their mother, Gladys and James stepped in and helped them through that difficult time. She loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Grateful for having shared Gladys’ life are numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Carrie Grindeland; her husband, James and fourteen brothers and sisters, Sam, Orville, Raymond, Kenneth, Evelyn, Clifford, Malla, Ella, Ethyl, Rudolph, Adolph, Hazel, Arthur and Wilma.
