John Hanson

From "Hello Hansonville" by Cora Digre, daughter of John Hanson - she presented his document for the "Old Settlers Association" of Lincoln County in 1905.:
"John Hanson, the first settler in the Town of Hansonville, was born Sept. 6, 1848, in Town of Nannestad, about 25 English miles north of Christianna, Norway. He obtained a good common school education, and left his home before he was fourteen years old. His first occupation after leaving his home, was clerking in a store at Dahl railroad station, about seven English miles from Eidsvold. This position he held for about three and a half years.
On the 13th day of May, 1866, he and his brother, Hans J. Hanson, sailed from Christiana in a 200 ton sail vessel and landed at Quebec Canada, July 2nd the same year, and the journey continued until he reached Fillmore County Minnesota. In this vicinity he was working for two years, and afterwards he went to Illinois, where he worked on the railroad, and after this his main occupation was on the railroads, as a subcontractor on several of the frontier roads in Iowa, Minnesota, and Dakota. The 4th of July, 1873, he established his home on his claim in Town of Hansonville, where he with his family still live and enjoy happiness and a pleasant life.
During his life in Hansonville, he has held the following official positions: county commissioner from 1875 to 1881, United States Census enumerator in 1880, member of the State House of Representatives in 1887,Justice of the Peace several times, school district clerk and road overseer. At the present, he is writing this history for the "Old Settlers Association" of Lincoln County."
