Guri was born of Esten Andersen and Gjartrud Persdatter who were not married. She was raised by her grandparents.

However, church records show her birth with a mother named Ingeborg. Researchers in Norway have made the following statement which reflects the ancestry in my file. The absolute identity of her mother most likely will never be known, but for now, the Haltdalen and Singsåsboks seem to be based on this opinion:
"After this, Gertrud probably (not for certain)(church records say it was her daughter Ingeborg) had an out of wedlock daughter named Guri. Her father was Esten Andersen Hovstad, from Almås. This Guri (5/15/1815-4/20/1889) was married to Børge Olsen Ramlo (4/20/1811-9/20/1904). "
