'''Note:''' Millwright. Thomas Kirby (Kerby) immigrated from England to Virginia in 1634 aboard either the 'Revenge' or the 'James'. [The ships sailed together and arrived together. It is not clear which ship he actually sailed in.] Heserved an indenture to pay his passage. He was a skilled millwright and built many grist mills in the new colony. Once his indenture was completed he acquired over 500 acres of land and became a prosperous planter, although he continued his occupation of millwright.
