Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Stewartville. Mrs. Fredricksen, 74, of 110 Sixth St. N.E., Stewartville, co-owner of C. Fredricksen Excavating, died of complications of diabetes and heart disease Thursday (Sept. 16, 1999) at Stewartville Care Center where she had resided the past two months; she had been ill five months. Barbara Althea Stiles was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Stewartville, lived with her family in North Dakota as a young child and moved to the Racine area in the early 1930s. After graduating from Stewartville High School in 1942, she worked as a clerk at Cutting's Store in Racine. In 1946 she moved to Rochester with her family and was employed in bookkeeping and sales at Marigold Dairy until 1953. On July 8, 1950, she married Clarence P. Fredricksen at the Methodist Church in Racine. Mrs. Fredricksen was co-owner, bookkeeper and dump truck driver for C. Fredricksen Excavating in Stewartville. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, a 49-year member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 164 and held auxiliary offices at the local and county levels. Also, she was active in the Area Historical Society of Stewartville, co-founded the Lady Slipper Model A's, an affiliate of the Model A Ford Club of America, and was a member of the former Root River Antique Power Association. She was an avid bird watcher, knitter, woodcarver and painter. Survivors include her husband; a son, Clarence of Stewartville; two grandchildren; a sister, Elinor Lamb of Stewartville, and two brothers, Charles Stiles of Rochester and Ray Stiles of Richfield, Minn. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and until noon Sunday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville and an hour before the service at the church.
