In the visitation of Shropshire in 1623Visitation of Shropshire Taken in the Year 1623. Edited by Grazebrook G and Rylands JP 1889. The Publications of the Harleian Society Vol 29 he was recorded as Richard Owen of Shropshire, son of Owen ap Gruffith and his second wife Gwenhever Ireland. His wife was recorded as Mary Oteley, daughter of Thomas Oteley of Shropshire. The issue from the marriage was noted as: Thomas, Richard, Elizabeth and Robert.
In BurkeBurke J esq (1835) A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland. Vol II. London. he was described as Richard Owen of Shrewsbury, Draper and Merchant, son of Owen ap Griffith of Llunllo near Machynlleth.
