==Biography== He was the 6th Great Grandfather of Queens Elizabeth II through his son [[Porteus-5|Robert Porteus]] to the Bowes Lyons family. He was born in Newbotttle, Gloucester Co. Virginia to Edward Porteus and Margaret Freeman. He moved with his family to Yorkshire in 1720. His will 'Robert Porteus Gentleman of Ripon, Yorkshire' was probated 7/9/1758 (PCC). He first married Mildred Smith 17/8/1700, a first cousin once removed of President George Washington. Their eldest son Robert was born in Virginia. She died before 1712, when he married Elizabeth Jennings, daughter of Edmund Jennings, governor of Virginia (1706-10).
