== Biography ==Thomas Bennett was born in the 1580s in Wilvescomb,Somerset, England. He was a very early settler in Virginia; the 1624 census shows him living on the south side of the James near Lawnes Creek. Very shortly thereafter he married Alice Pierce, the widow of Thomas Pierce, who was killed in the Indian attacks of 1622 at Martin's Hundred. He moved across the James to Mulberry Island in Warwick County, where Alice owned land. He was elected to the House of Burgesses from Mulberry Island in 1632. Later, however, he moved back over the river to the Lawnes Creek area. He died in early 1642 in Isle of Wight County. Alice was alive in 1652 but dead by 1666, according to deed records in Isle of Wight.
