From "Early Families of Weymouth" (Chamberlain -- rife with errors throughout
but probably not in these basic entries): Edmund HART prob. came in the
"Mary and John," arr. at Dorchester in 1630, having landed at Nantasket, 30
May 1630. The company set. in Dorchester on or about 17 June 1630, and Mr.
Hart was granted land there in 1632. He was made a freeman of the Mass. Bay
Colony, 14 May 1635. Town records of Dorch. show that Edmond HART et al.
"are to have their great lotts of 16 acres a peece, next to the great lotts
that are all redy layde owt towardes Neponsett," 16 Jan 1632. He had 18
acres granted to him in Weymouth in 1636 and 11 acres in the East field and
three acres at Kingoke [sic; King Oak] Hill. He also had seven acres in the
First Division and 21 acres in the Second Div. granted to him 14 Dec 1663.
Savage conjectures that he rem. from Weymouth to Westfield after 1664, and
that he was the same of his name killed there by lightning in 1673. His wife
d. at Weymouth, 20 Aug 1659.
Edmund Hart was born by about 1610 based on receipt of land grant early in 1633. He came to Massachusetts Bay in 1632 & first settled at Dorchester. He later moved to Weymouth in 1636, & Westfield in 1664. He died at Westfield about 23 September 1672, "by the immediate hand of God in thunder and lightning."
He married by about 1638 _____ _____; she died Weymouth 20 August 1659. One Child: Charity (Hart) Loveland.

On 5 September 1664 "Edmond Hart of Weimouth" sold to James NashSenior of the same "my dwelling house & lot adjacent thereunto beingtwenty acres more or less ...land first granted to Edward Sarrellalienated from him to Timothy Wales from him to Stephen French & nowin the possession of me Edmond Hart", also "my two divisions ofcommons", also "all my right title & interest in the town" [SLR 5:82]
On 17 October 1664 "Edmund Hart of Waymouth, planter", purchased ofPraisever Turner of Northampton, miller, one-half of two parcels whichTurner had purchased from Edward Griswold of Windsor, at Woronoco,"being seven or eight miles ... from Springfield": one-half oftwenty-five acres of meadow, and one-half of twenty-five acres ofupland meadow (the other half of each lot being sold to CorneliusMerry) [HamLR A:58]
30 September 1672: "Edmund Hart of Westfield dying suddenly thissennight past inquiry was made by a jury of 12 men concerning hisdeath who found it to be by the immediate hand of God in thunder &lightning as they conceive; their verdict is on file. And the saidEdmund Hart dying intestate the inventory of his estate was presentedto this Court and power of administration upon is granted to GeorgePhelps which he accepted of. Also Elisha Hart son of Edm[un]d Hartbeing weak to manage his own matters chose his uncle the said Geo[rge]Phelps for his guardian whom the court approved for that end." [HamPR1:147].
The inventory of the estate of "Edmund Hart late of Westfielddeceased" was signed 25 July 1673 and totalled &68 16s 6d. Includingreal estate valued at &96 1s.: "eleven acres of meadow &55"; "twentyacres of land in the woods &40"; "a homelot Fortside four acres landnot taken up &1 1s." There was a debt due to Aaron Cooke from "EdmundHart ... his son-in-law John Scone can testify to it." On 31 March 1674 the court further ordered that the distribution ofthe estate of Edmund Hart of Westfield be "that Elisha Hart (for thathe is very weak for abibilities of his mind ... being crazy in hisbody) shall have &15 of the said estate"; "Edm: Hart's daughters shallhave the rest of the estate in equal portion: and if any of thedaughters shall die before distribution of the estate be made suchportion shall go to the children of such daughters if they have any;and Elisha Hart having at the last court at Springfiled chosen hisuncle George Phelps for his guardian whom that court allowed of, thiscourt declares that no person shall trade or bargain with the saidElisha without the consent of his said guardian" [HamPR 1:154]
