He came with his parents, [[Miller-15604 | Samuel]] and [[Wilson-13980 | Jannetta Wilson]] Miller, in 1855, at seventeen years of age, to Clinton Co., Indiana, and then to Memphis, Scotland Co., Mo. in 1856. In 1860, he returned to (Wabash Co.) Ind. and there married, on February 6, 1862, [[Lackey-311 | Mary Agnes Lackey]], born Aug. 21, 1842. Mr. and Mrs. Miller removed from Ind., in 1878, to Memphis, Scotland Co., Mo., where they lived and farmed on property adjacent to James' parents, Samuel and Janetta Miller. In 1896 they again removed to Harrison, Arkansas. Mary Agnes Lackey Miller died on March 28, 1912. James Wilson Miller resided in Harrison, Arkansas until his death on November 13, 1929. He took a lively interest in all that transpired in the civil and religious affairs of the day and visited his children in Idaho, Montana, Utah and Iowa. He was a Presbyterian in faith, the faith of his fathers.
