She was the daughter of Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford and Lady Henrietta Cavendish Holles. She married William Bentinck, 2nd Duke of Portland, son of Capt.-Gen. Henry Bentinck, 1st Duke of Portland and Lady Elizabeth Noel, on 11 July 1734. She died on 17 July 1785 at age 70.As a result of her marriage, Lady Margaret Cavendish Harley was styled as Duchess of Portland on 11 July 1734. From 11 July 1734, her married name became Bentinck.
