Abigail Oakes

She married her cousin William B. Oakes (Okes). His father is William Oakes. In a booklet, named " 'Neath the Oaks", compiled by Lonnie L. Oaks Jr., the following is stated: "In the Okes papers at Dunns, W.VA., is a letter from Almira to Mrs. Abigail "Oakes" at Dunns--Abigail's husband died in 1887. The letter was dated March 21, 1889, at Worlds, near Chatham, VA. In the letter, Almira told her aunt-in-law that money left her by the Kirby estate was ready and that she could get it by writing William Overby or going after it. Almira said her mother must go to the court house before April 1 to "fix to draw her pension. Mother can't see one thing. She keeps to her bed most of her time. She draws a pension of thirty dollars ayer on the account of farther (father) getting kild in the War..."
