===Earlier Marriage(s) ?===
An internet tree suggests that Edward Mountjoy had children born prior to his marriage to Elizabeth, and no children reported from his marriage to Elizabeth. This suggests an earlier marriage.

These children were reported for Edward Mountjoy:
#Edward Mountjoy, b. Bef 1660, Biddestone Manor, Wiltshire Parish, England, d. Abt 26 Sep 1712, Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia (Age > 52 years)#Thomas Mountjoy, b. Bef 1671, Westmoreland County, Virginia, d. Aft 1691, Westmoreland County, Virginia (Age > 22 years
However, the [[Mountjoy-127|Edward Mountjoy]] born in Biddestone, Wiltshire, England, was born c 1664 and was the son of a Thomas Mountjoy of Biddestone.
The internet tree provided no source for the son 'Thomas Mountjoy b bef 1671'.
King suggested that the Edward Mountjoy who died c 1712 and who had married a Mary Crosby c 1710 was a son of Edward Mountjoy the subject of this profile.
Possibly his son: "In a list of the militia for the various counties of Virginia dated the 17th of June 1703, which was certified to Her Magesty, Queen Anne, the following field officers are named for Stafford... Captain: Edward Mountjoy From: Historical Register, 1706.

One unsourced genealogy shows her birth place as North River Mills, Hampshire, Virginia Unspecified Ancestry.com database.

It is not certain who her parents were.
Her father is often stated to be John Alexander, but this is unproven. He was born about 1603 in England, and died 5 October 1677 in Stafford County, Virginia. (Death date based on probate record). He was around 74 years of age at his death.
Her mother was said to be Catherine Graham, born before 1620 in Gartmore, Scotland and d. Bef 1663, Stafford County, Virginia
John Alexander and his wife Catherine married before 1636.
If Elizabeth was born into this family around 1636, she would have been the eldest child.
