John Ragland was a child of John Raglan(d) and Alice Kingsonn. He was known as, "The Elder," husbandman, of Wiveliscombe Parish, Somerset, England. (Somerset is approximately eight miles due south of St. Decuman's) He appears to have done well financially, owning at the time of his death, farms in Wiveliscombe, St. Decuman's and Langford Budville Parishes, Somerset, and Dorset. He died in 1650.
