William Chester's 1566 will divided his estate between his 2 sons thusly:: "''." By 1566, William and Maude Chester's older son, Sir Robert Chester, was already an aspiring member of the "new" aristocracy, and had been just been knighted. He was Usher and Dresser to King Henry VIII in Windsor and London. He would be named High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and Essex the following year. He was married to Catherine Throckmorton, of an old aristocratic family and clearly very-much a "self-made man".
